The Social Service Branch of the city police will coordinate with the local police to check if hotels and bars allow more than the permissible capacity.

The Mumbai police will play party-poopers this New Year.
The police have planned to carry out checks in bars and hotels to see if there is overcrowding.

“Hotel and bars have a limited seating capacity. But on New Year’s eve, they obtain special one-day permission from the authorities to increase the capacity as they use other areas on their premises such as terraces and lawns to accommodate the people,” said assistant commissioner of police, SSB, Vasant Dhoble.

“The police will take action by carrying out checks at these places and see if more patrons are allowed by the establishments than the permitted number,” he added.

The Social Service Branch of the city police will coordinate along with the local police to check if hotels and bars allow more than the permissible capacity.

He added that if the establishments are found violating the rules and indulging in overcrowding of patrons, then action would be taken. They would have to flush out customers from the place.

“All establishments are supposed to run till 1.30am and maintain limitations of patrons granted to them as per the licences. But they ask for special permission to open places till 5am on New Year’s eve,” said Dhoble.
