As per the recent data, over 60 per cent of the patients haven't received education on how to give insulin shot correctly.

Dr Anushree Mehta, a diabetologist, said, "The right technique of insulin injection is crucial for patients to avoid complications. In 2017, the Forum for Injection Techniques & Therapy Expert Recommendations had emphasized the importance of good injection practices and barriers to insulin injection therapy and its preventive measures. It also included measures to enhance awareness of the good injection practice among patients."

According to the doctors, most of the time, patients face a plethora of complications due to lack of knowledge.

Dr Pradeep Gadge, diabetologist, added, "The misinformation is not just in new patients but also in the patients who have been on insulin for years."

He further added, "A proper diabetic educator is necessary in such cases for the patients. There is a lot of misconception among the masses. Sometimes the insulin dose is not taken properly. Patients suffer from swelling as well. While travelling outdoor, few patients don't store the medicine properly."
