A 32-year-old woman hanged herself on Sunday at her house at RNA Complex in Kandivli (West).

Asmita Shinde, a homemaker, used to live with her nine-year-old daughter and husband Dr Amber Shinde, a medical professional.

She reportedly committed suicide because of depression.

The couple had a love marriage 12 years ago. Their families had opposed the marriage and were not in touch with them.

The police said that she hanged herself around 4 pm on Sunday when her husband was in the house and there were neighbours visiting them. Her daughter had gone to a relative’s place.

The police have not found any suicide note. The couple used to be free on Sundays and so the neighbours usually visited them.

“The couple was talking with their neighbours. Leaving them, Asmita went to the bedroom and locked herself. When she didn’t come out, the husband tried opening the door but couldn’t,” said senior police inspector Vasant Appa Devarkar of the Charkop police station.

The police have learnt that Asmita was depressed as she used to feel lonely and used to miss her family who had broken all ties with them after their wedding.

The police will take the statement of the people present in the house when the incident took place, said a police officer.

They have registered a case of accidental death.
