Four schools in Madanpura, Nagpada area is getting a facelift with a view to improve the quality of education and infrastructure so that they can compete with private schools. The schools will have a new facade, upgraded toilets and bright colours unlike regular schools.

Education Officer of BMC, Mahesh Palkar said, "The work has begun, we are starting work at some locations, where the schools will be upgraded. This also helps a lot as parents and students get attracted and even the quality of education has increased."

Funds worth Rs 5 crore has been sanctioned for Madanpura schools, and the renovation work was inaugurated by the local corporator last week. "Rennovation doesnt just mean giving a fresh coat of paint to the buildings, it will include a good facade, an elevation, and upgraded infrastructure," said Rais Shaikh, the local corporator of the area.

Toilets also have been renovated and the new ones are going to be clean, and properly done. "Look at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) schools, they normally aren't very appealing. The aim is to have schools that look good and also have all the amenities that a private school offers. This will help us in attracting students to government schools. We want to compete with the private schools and we are putting up posters of how the schools will look after the rennovation at various locations to attract kids," said Shaikh.

When schools are upgraded, educational reforms too take place, which make parents more willing to send their kids to our schools, said the education officer.

According to Shaikh one of the schools will also be made English medium.
