Mumbai gets its own logo, citizens react

From 'Aamchi Mumbai' to 'Majhi Mumbai' - The new logo will be used on all official and unofficial work of the BMC

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has undertaken a branding campaign for Mumbai, the official theme being- 'Majhi Mumbai’ (My Mumbai), which be used for BMC's "official and unofficial" work. 

The Indian obsession with a woman's maternal role is clearly visible in the city's logo where a blue dot atop a black circular outline of arms denotes a mother embracing a white flower, symbolic of a child against an orange background.

As reported by The Indian Express, Rahul Shewale, standing committee chairman and Shiv Sena corporator said the logo was designed to show how Mumbai has "nurtured" its residents with maternal affection.

Bhupal Ramnathkar, founder of city-based Umbrella Design, that created the logo explained that orange is symbolic of the city's unity, happiness, beauty, progress and the blue, the sea.
