Retreating monsoons hit Mumbai

"Mumbai is likely to receive more rains in the next 48 hours," a India Meterological Department official said.

The last leg of monsoon seems have done wonders for Mumbaikars. Consistent rains in the catchment have stored at least 21 days of water supply in the reservoirs supplying water to the city.

And the silver lining is that the Modak Sagar reservoir has overflown on Sunday and BMC's water department is hopeful that all six lakes and the two dams will be filled up by the end of this month, if it rained for a few more days. The water stock has swelled up by 81,000 million litres. Till Sunday morning the total water stock has reached 10,75,000 million litres. The stock needed for the entire year is 14,45,000 million litres.

As per the prediction of the officials at IMD, Mumbai will still have an overcast weather for couple of more days. "Mumbai is likely to receive more rains in the next 48 hours," said a IMD official.
