Priyanka D’Souza, who is scheduled to graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, in 2013 with a BTech, MTech (Dual Degree) in Energy Science and Systems Engineering, has won the prestigious Rhodes scholarship.
In a highly-competitive selection process, which spanned over six months, the finalists were interviewed by the selection panel and quizzed individually on their interests, achievements and goals.
The selection committee was chaired by industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla and included the Acting Warden of Rhodes House Dr Andrew Graham, along with top academics and professionals and Rhodes Scholar alumni.
The other winners from India are: Anupama Kumar, scheduled to graduate from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore, in 2013 with a BA, LLB (Hons) degree.
Kalyani Ramachandran, who has a BA(Hons) in History from St Stephen’s College, University of Delhi; Jalnidh Kaur, who is scheduled to graduate from St Stephen’s College, University of Delhi, in 2013 with a BA(Hons) in Economics and Arushi Garg, who is scheduled to graduate from the NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, in 2013 with a BA,LLB(Hons) degree.
The Rhodes Scholarships are post-graduate awards, which include all university and college fees for two to three years (depending on the academic route taken), an annual stipend of around £13,000, health insurance and travel expenses to the University of Oxford before the start of the programme and a return ticket following the course of study.
