After coming under fire from citizens and a complaint being filed with BMC over alleged encroachment on footpath by gardening, Infiniti Mall located at Link Road in Oshiwara carried out self-demolition of the same further making it free of obstruction for pedestrian movement.
The complaint was filed with BMC's K/West ward alleging that due to footpath being encroached by the mall, pedestrians are left with no option but to get down on from the footpath and walk on the road.
A BMC official said, "We had given the mall 48 hours after getting the complaint couple of days ago, and it seems they have now made footpath free of obstruction."
The complaint was made by a local and MNS party worker Prashant Rane. Rane told DNA, "We have been working in the city against encroachments and making space for people to walk and commute. I had complained against Infiniti Mall for encroaching footpath and carrying out gardening activities."
A representative from Infiniti Mall said, "We have removed the gardening on our self and made it free for pedestrians." An email response by Infiniti Mall stated, "We are a law-abiding and socially responsible company. It has always been our effort to serve the society at large and we wouldn't like to do anything which can inconvenience the common citizen."Dhaval Shah, a local who resides near the Mall said, "The road is always full of heavy traffic, and with it, the Metro construction on Link Road has made things worse for traffic movement. In all this, movement of pedestrians is reliable only on the footpath but that was encroached by the mall for gardening activities."
Shah added, "Not only this gardening but another obstruction that of a tower for high tension wire is on footpath few meters away from this gardening. Even that should be removed."
Another local Karan Jotwani said, "The area is completely choked with vehicles and auto drivers who queue on the last lane of the Link Road. In all this, the only option for the pedestrian is to walk via footpath that is even full of obstructions."
