Family of a 17-year-old Dharavi resident, Sachin Jaiswar, who died in Sion Hospital on Saturday during treatment, has refused to take custody of the body and has demanded that an FIR be registered against the policemen involved and that be placed under suspension.

"We will not claim the body until an FIR is registered against the policemen involved and until they are placed under suspension," Sunil said, adding that his family was not a part of the mob that indulged in vandalism on Saturday. "We do not know who were the people involved in the mob. None of our friends, relatives and family members were involved in the vandalism," he said.

"Sachin was brutally tortured inside the police station. When he returned home, the injuries were visible. His health kept deteriorating since then and now he has left us all. Sachin's mother in inconsolable since she lost her son. We all are still at the hospital and we need justice. Sachin had no criminal history then on what basis did the police took him for questioning?" said Jaiswar's friend Amit Jadhav.

Meanwhile, the police have sent the body for postmortem at JJ Hospital to ascertain the exact cause of the death, the official said.
