Mumbai man arrested for robbing Pune garment shop

Even as the crime rate in Pune is on the rise, criminals from Mumbai are also targeting the city. The Deccan Gymkhana police arrested one Velu Vikram Nair, 28, a resident of Fort in Mumbai, in connection with a burglary that had taken place at Louis Philippe readymade garments showroom on Jungli Maharaj Road in May 2011. The police claim to have recovered the stolen garments, valued at over Rs1.49 lakh, from Velu. According to the police records, booty valued at Rs6 lakh was stolen from the showroom. The stolen booty included Rs1.5 lakh in cash, 80 shirts, 85 trousers, eight pair of suits and some T-shirts.

Nair’s accomplices, Ali Asgar Alif Khan alias Guddu, 25, of Andheri and Stephan Das Swami alias Paiyya (33) of Navi Mumbai, were arrested on June 11, 2011. The police were looking for Nair since then. Nair has been remanded in police custody till February 27.

Assistant store manager, Mandar Laxmikant Dev, 30, had lodged a complaint with police. The burglars had forced entry inside the showroom at night.
