Heard about Robotic dustbins? If no, well then you might soon be able to see one in the Mumbai city. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to introduce robotic dustbins all over the city.
These robot dustbins, fully-automatic mobile trash-can, may replace the green-coloured plastic bins. The dustbin with nine sensors will have the capacity to travel 350 metres after being charged for four hours. It will be able to sense human presence and would be able to collect 80 kilograms of trash in a single run.
Brain-child of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), it is in the pilot phase at a civic-run school in Dadar.
Sandeep Deshpande, MNS group leader, talking to iamin said, “After the 30-day pilot study is over, a report will be made and accordingly, the civic body will install mobile bins across the city.”
The dustbins were conceptualised by Mumbai-based SV Robotics and will cost around Rs 1.25 lakh each. According to a BMC official, the trash will be able to operate in obstacle-free open public spaces. The civic body is also planning to install the dustbins in tourist spots including Gateway of India, Walkeshwar Hanging Gardens and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj museum.
A three-tier security system in the trash cans will avoid them from being stolen. The dustbins will be controlled according to coordinates fed into their security system.
