The Amboli police have seized cocaine worth Rs 37.76 lakh and have arrested a Nigerian national for allegedly possessing the drugs for selling purpose. The arrest was made during wee hours of Tuesday and based on a tip-off from informers, the police team successfully conducted the operation and nabbed the accused from the spot.
According to the Amboli police, the accused identified as Femi Olyuyanka Opyemi Khi (29), who is a resident of Nigeria had come with drugs to sell them to consumers in the area. The police got credible information about Khi and his activities from their informers and based on that, they planned an operation to nab him red-handed.
On Monday late night around 1 am, a police team led by Senior police inspector of Amboli police, Bharat Gaikwad and police inspector Daya Naik set up a trap near Sahakar Road in Jogeshwari west and on finding Khi doing some suspicious activity, the police immediately arrested him.
Proper search of the accused resulted in seizure of 472 gramme of Cocaine which is estimated to be worth Rs 37 lakhs in the market. The police is investigating the case and is trying to find out whether more people are involved in such activities. Khi has been charged under relevant sections and is under police interrogation. According to the police, the need of the hour is to take immediate steps to make the area drugs free and under consistent insistence of the senior police officers, such operations are being conducted to take actions against such illegal activities.
ANOTHER NARCOTICS STORY IN BOX
In another incidence reported for drugs seizure, the Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) unit of Azad Maidan arrested a 56 year-old person on Tuesday who was allegedly carrying 14 grams of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) drug with him. The accused identified as Salim Khan was spotted by a police officer carrying something suspicious inside his bag after which he was searched properly and MDMA worth Rs 98,000 was seized from Khan's bag.
