Released from judicial custody just there days ago, a 30-year-old man allegedly kidnapped and raped a six-year-old at Oshiwara on Sunday night. Police say Shahib Abid Ansari is a sex addict and has been divorced twice for making unreasonable sexual demands from his two wives.
Ansari is named in more than a dozen cases of theft registered across the city, and his photograph adorns the rogue's wall in various police stations. Yet, he was out on bail, slipping through one of the many loopholes in the legal system.
On August 31, Ansari lured the child with the promise of chocolate to the BMC ground. She was playing outside her house near Anand Nagar in Oshiwara and he put her in an auto to take her to the desolate place.
He raped and left her bleeding, but not before threatening her with dire consequences if she told anybody about the incident. A constable from Oshiwara police station found her crying and wandering on the road and took her to the police. Her parents had already approached the same police station to lodge a Missing Persons complaint about their child.
The police took her to a hospital, where a medical examination revealed that she had been sexually assaulted.
"We went through CCTV camera footage to nab Ansari," said Zone 9 DCP Paramjit Singh Dahiya, "It showed a man wearing a red T-shirt walking with the girl. We suspected it was a food delivery guy and 10 to 15 of them living in the area. In another footage, we could see 'Matrix Imagine' written on the T-shirt and were able to zero in on him with the help of locals."
"Ansari also has a criminal record in Delhi police station, where he stole two vehicles, " said Investigating Officer Raghunath Kadam, "He was also arrested three months ago in Mumbai for stealing Rs three lakh from a house where he worked as household help." He was produced in court on Tuesday and remanded to seven days in police custody.
