Children admitted to the civic-run St George's Hospital at CST are in for a colourful treat, with the facility doing up the play area in the paediatric ward flamboyantly.
The makeover follows the facelift that the thalassemia care centre at the hospital got about five months ago.
The hospital is now in the process of revamping the paediatric ward as well as the women's general ward, with the help of social workers and NGOs, who have roped in city-based artist Nitin Kadam.
Dr Madhukar Gaikwad, medical superintendent at St George's Hospital, said, "Just like our thalassemia centre, we wanted to this ward to look attractive too."
He said the hospital needed to repair two wards — women's general ward and paediatric ward. "The latter will be made interesting and visually appealing by using a lot of colours, in place of using a single pale colour," he said. "Besides, attractive art on the woodwork will reflect the diverse culture of India."
He added that the makeover of the paediatric ward, which is on the ground floor, has been given more attention. "An NGO is helping us with the repair work. The work is likely to be completed before the monsoon."
The building recently underwent a pre-monsoon audit. "We found some leakages. And some repair work needs to be done on the walls and the rooftop in different areas of the building. We will start the work soon."
