Diagnosis and disorders related to the kidneys, ureters, bladder, prostate and male reproductive organs are treated in the department.

After a gap of around four to five months, the Urology department will start again in government-run St George's Hospital within a few weeks.

The hospital, however, had the department earlier as well, but due to lack of doctors to function the ward and OPD cases, they had to close down.

Currently, a female medical ward is operated on the first floor where the Urology department was located. According to the medical authority, soon the doctors will be appointed and the department will be functional again.

Diagnosis and disorders related to the kidneys, ureters, bladder, prostate and male reproductive organs are treated in the department.

"After the head of the Urology department left the job, two new mid-level doctors were appointed to check the outpatients and inpatients. But later, they too left the job and due to lack of doctors, we had to close down the department. Most of the patients who visit the hospital in Out Patient Department (OPD) ward are referred to the state-run major hospital — JJ Hospital for further treatment," said Madhukar Gaikwad, medical superintendent, St George's Hospital.

"We are also planning to start a dialysis centre along with the new department," added Gaikwad.
