Commuters might face less traffic for a month while going back home up north in the city as the Mumbai Traffic Police (MTP) has enforced four hours restriction of all kinds of commercial three-wheelers during peak time in the day. The restrictions will not be applicable to passenger auto rickshaws.
According to a notification issued by the MTP on Friday, "Due to a steep increase in the number of vehicles plying on the WEH coupled with reduced carriageway due to the ongoing works of mega projects, it is felt necessary to take steps to decongest the carriageway of WEH."
The Traffic Police observed that plying of three-wheeler commercial vehicles causes obstruction to traffic flow not only due to its numbers but also due to increased friction in traffic movements, thereby causing inconvenience to the general public.
"In order to prevent obstructions and inconvenience to the public, for smooth movement of traffic and better traffic management, plying of all commercial three-wheeler vehicles are restricted between 5 pm to 9 pm on the northbound carriageway of the WEH," said Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Amitesh Kumar.
