A 23-year-old aspiring journalist, Tejashree Vaidya, who was critically injured after falling from a local train, has finally been taken off the ventilator support on Saturday.
Young and effervescent, Vaidya had fallen into a nullah after losing her balance between the Matunga and Sion station almost a month ago while she was on her way to write an exam at the KC College. The police had recovered her body an hour after the accident.
After a month-long treatment, Vaidya has finally started breathing although she requires oxygen support sometimes.
Sanket Vaidya, her brother, said, "Her condition is much better now. While she was in a coma earlier, she has now started moving her right eye, hands, and leg. Her left side is still not functioning properly due to a blood clot. Her physiotherapy and diet are still on."
"We have spent Rs 80,000 so far and received the help of Rs 28,000 from the Rajeev Gandhi health insurance scheme. The hospital's Social Work Department is also helping us to reduce the cost. Many people have come forward to help us financially," said Shreeram Vaidya, her father.
Dr Jayshree Mondkar, Dean of Sion Hospital, said, ''She is recovering well. She will take time to recover fully but is showing positive responses to the treatment."
