On Monday, the civic body published notice of proposals that will be discussed and finalised by this month end.

Yellow demarcated boxes will soon identify halting places for BEST buses at their stops. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is expected to approve this by month end whereby later these boxes will be drawn in front of every bus stop. This system is usually found in European countries.

On Monday, the civic body published notice of proposals that will be discussed and finalised by this month end. This proposal for approving yellow demarcated boxes was made by Shiv Sena Corporator Vasant Nakashe.

Once it gets approved then tenders will be called and contractors appointed for painting these yellow boxes. As per plans, these quadrangular boxes will be drawn in front of major bus stops, of the total 6,000 bus stops in Mumbai.

"We have identified around 20 per cent of major bus stops where traffic density is high. On these routes will the yellow boxes be demarcated as an indication for buses to halt," said a BEST official.

BEST officials stated that these boxes will help BEST bus drivers to halt properly rather than stopping away from the bus stops in the middle of the road. However if there are more than one bus arriving at the bus stop then these would ideally be expected to stand in a queue, if traffic permits.
