The state transport department on Thursday announced a steep hike in fares for share-taxi and share-autorickshaw services, in line with the general fares that were hiked a week ago. However, the department has not yet decided on a change in prepaid fares.

According to the new charges that will be applicable from Friday, commuters will have to pay between 15% and 20% more for share taxis and 20% to 32% more for share autos, depending on the routes where this service is available at different places across the city and suburbs.

Maharashtra transport commissioner VN More explained that the hike for share services was steep because these fares were not increased the last time there was a fare hike.

The list of updated fares on various share taxi and share autorickshaw has been uploaded on the official website of the state transport commissioner at www.mahatranscom.in.

Another senior official of the department said that it had taken some time to decide on the share fares because of the different categories of fare tables that have to be worked out for vehicles operating with old mechanical meters and the new electronic meters.
