Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) former standing committee chairman and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator, Prashant Krishnarao Shitole, who was booked for murder, surrendered before the Sangvi police on Saturday. He had been absconding for 10 days.
Clashes between two groups, one led by Shitole and the other by his political rival Harshal Dhore, led to the murder of Tushar Rajendra Dhore (24) at Ganpati Chowk in Old Sangvi during the Navratri festival on October 3. Tushar suffered major injuries on his neck and died in hospital.
NCP corporator in custody for youth’s murder
Tushar’s friend, Ganesh Subhash Dhore (24), also a resident of Old Sangvi, lodged a police complaint. The police booked Shitole and three others under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code, 1860. Shitole was on the run since then.
Shitole surrendered at the Sangvi police station on Saturday at around 12 noon. He was produced before the court in Pimpri, which remanded him in police custody till October 19.
