The NCP today lamented the poor condition of roads and demanded that the Mumbai Municipal Corporation and MMRDA ensure that the situation improves before Ganesh Chaturthi next month.

In separate letters to Municipal commissioner Swadheen Kshtriya and MMRDA commissioner Ratnakar Gaikwad, NCP president Madhukar Pichad said it is expected that infrastructure work be of quality since they have been undertaken from the taxes paid by the common man.

Condition of roads where MMRDA has undertaken infrastructure development works was a cause of concern, Pichad said.

"There number of potholes is increasing and the presence of equipments required for the infrastructure works has made the situation worse. Even reaching hospital to save a life has become impossible," Pichad said.

He demanded that Kshtriya and Gaikwad intervene and punish guilty officials and contractors. "We expect that you will improve the situation before Ganesh Chaturthi," Pichad added.

Interestingly, NCP has criticised the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) which is under the direct control of the chief minister. Whereas Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is run by the Shiv Sena-BJP.

When asked about it, party spokesman Madan Bafna said no politics should be read into this. "We have requested that improvement be made in the interest of the common man," he added.
