With lakhs of people visiting VP Road, MJ Market, Zaveri Bazaar, Bhuleshwar and Pydhonie, and vehicles plying round the clock, the major problem for the police is to keep a tab on their activities and ensure terrorist elements do not have an advantage in the chaos. The police have used a two-way model to ensure there are less crowds and no vehicles in these areas.
“CCTVs cannot help because since thousands of people are covered in the cameras, which only makes it difficult to pinpoint and identify the culprits involved in crimes,” said a police officer, requesting anonymity.
The police have therefore put barricading on the entry and exit point of some areas, especially at Zaveri Bazaar, barring vehicles to enter inside. “We have also taken action against hawkers in these areas, so that there are lesser crowds. The crowds in these areas have come down tremendously. We have extended our action till Badshaah cold drink shop near Crawford Market,” said the officer.
The Zone II police have also bought 50 clamps on their own so that action can be taken against those who park their vehicles illegally. “Since vehicles were used in the 13/7 blasts we are taking no chances and immediately clamp those cars that are parked illegally,” said the officer.
