Nilam's distraught mother, Sunita, was at her wits' end when she arrived at Jiddha, the building, looking for her daughter's room.
For unknown reasons, the residents of the building did not help the divorcee, who is in her 40s. She was visiting Nilam's room for the first time.
Wailing, Sunita kept on asking the residents for directions to Nilam's room, but nobody came forward to help her. "Please tell me who killed by daughter," she pleaded with them.
Sunita, who works as a baby sitter and resides in Kothrud, told DNA that Nilam was planning to quit her job and prepare for an entrance test for a job in a bank. Nilam was a brilliant student and did well in her standard X and XII exams.
"We last met on August 4. I spoke to her over the cellphone on Sunday afternoon when she was in Solapur. She told me she will be in Pune by Monday," Nilam's mother said.
"On Monday, I was waiting for her call, as she has a holiday on Monday, but she didn't call me. Around 9.30 am, I got a call from an unidentified person, who told me 'Your daughter is no more, please come to Dighi.' So I came here," she said.
Sunita has a son, who is doing a computer course in Solapur.
