Maharashtra governor and chancellor of universities in the state, K Sankaranarayanan today appointed new search committees to recommend a panel of names for selection as vice chancellor of the University of Mumbai and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad.
For Mumbai, the panel would be chaired by Dr Ashok Kolaskar, presently vice chancellor, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology University, Bhubaneshwar.
Prof P Balaram, Director, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and J S Saharia, Principal Secretary, Higher and Technical Education, would be the other members of the Committee, a Raj Bhawan official said.
Dr Kolaskar who is a former vice chancellor of the University of Pune and former Advisor, National Knowledge Commission has been asked to convene a meeting of the Search committee 'as soon as possible’.
The post of the vice chancellor of the University of Mumbai has been lying vacant since September 2009 following the expiry of term of Dr V V Khole. Dr Chandra Krishnamurthy, vice chancellor of the SNDT Women's University has since been appointed as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University.
For recommending a panel of names for selection of vice chancellor of the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University,
Aurangabad, a Search Committee under the chairmanship of
Justice B N Srikrishna, Retired Supreme Court Judge has been
appointed.
Prof Mrinal Miri, Chairman, Centre for Study of Developing Societies, New Delhi and Saharia would be the other members of the Committee.
The tenure of the present vice chancellor of the University, Prof Nagnath Kottapalle ends on June 4.
