What do you think should be the ‘Bird of Mumbai’? The crow, the lesser flamingo, the coppersmith barbet or the magpie robin? This Sunday, organisers of the 7th Mumbai Bird Race will announce the ‘Bird of Mumbai’ and it is the Mumbaikars themselves who can choose the bird that they feel represents Mumbai best.
The criteria are simple. “The bird should be found in abundance; the city should have been the bird’s home for a well-stretched period of time and the bird should have adopted itself to the changing environmental conditions,” said Ravi Vaidyanathan, one of the organisers of Bird Race, an event in which teams spread out across the city in an attempt to identify different bird species.
To take part in this vote, email your choice from the options given above to mumbaibird@gmail.com. The results will be handed over to an official from the ministry of environment and forests for government approval.
