Commuting relief for residents beyond Dahisar remains uncertain as there is no definite deadline for a Metro connecting the areas of Mira-Bhayander and Virar.
On Wednesday, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis responded to questions of MLC Muzaffar Hussain, Ashok (Bhai) Jagtap and Sanjay Dutt about plans to have Metro rail connectivity in the Mira-Bhayander region.
He said, "A comprehensive transport study had recommended 29.9km-long Dahisar-Mira Road-Maneckpur-Virar Metro. Thus, there is a plan to initiate measures for the same through the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), according to priority, planning and availability of funds."
Residents and elected representatives of Mira-Bhayander region have been demanding a Metro. They want the 16.5km-long Dahisar East-Andheri East Metro line extended up to Mira-Bhayander and beyond. However, there isn't any plan by the authorities, including the MMRDA, to immediately prepare a detailed project report (DPR) on the demand and implement the Metro line.
Authorities said they would look into the demand only after a revised comprehensive transport study is undertaken.
On June 17, Fadnavis had given the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation the mandate to update and prepare DPRs of four Metro lines totalling to 118km — 40km Dahisar-Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd Metro-II corridor (Rs12,000 crore), 40km Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane-Kasarvadavali Metro-IV corridor via GPO and RA Kidwai Marg (Rs12,000 crore), 27km Dahisar East-Andheri East-Bandra East Metro-V corridor (Rs8,100 crore) and 11km Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road Metro-VI corridor (Rs3,300 crore).
