There will be no VIP and VVIP culture at the Kumbh Mela in Nashik to avoid any inconvenience to the common man, as per instructions issued by the prime minister himself, irrigation and guardian minister of Nashik Girish Mahajan said on Friday.
Speaking in the state legislative council, Mahajan said they had invited Modi to the Mela. "Modiji told us the VIP culture should not be entertained in Kumbh Mela and that all visitors should be treated equally. VIP and VVIP culture puts the common man in trouble. Devotees should not be harassed; hence, we have taken this decision," he said.
"For the Mela, which takes place every 12 years, thousands of devotees are expected to visit Nashik. There will huge traffic from outside that will put the locals in a spot."
Residents have already informed their relatives not to visit them during the Mela. "The number of people visiting is huge. And the created infrastructure is not adequate. Commuting within the city is a big hassle for us. Guests visiting us will face the same problem. Therefore, we have informed our relatives to reschedule their visits," said Bhajirao Patil, a resident, who added that the massive event needs to be handled properly.
