One of the most iconic restaurants in the city — Not Just Jazz By The Bay — which helped promote live music acts will down its shutters for a month on Sunday. The eatery, famous for encouraging young promising musicians, will undergo a facelift.

When questioned about the makeover, Sanjay Narang, owner of Not Just Jazz By The Bay, said, “It’s going to be a surprise. But, trust me it will be nothing like the city has ever seen before.”

Narang plans to reopen it exactly in a month with the new concept.
For regulars, Sunday night will be the last chance to enjoy the music. Sunday will be Karaoke Night, where all patrons have been invited to sing their favourite tracks and browse through all their favourite images. “We also have Merlin D’souza and Vivian Pocha to perform jazz blues and funk on Saturday,” said Narang.

The iconic Jazz By The Bay opened its doors on January 27, 1996, when Mumbai’s live music scene was extinct. Going against the trend of discos and nightclubs, Jazz By The Bay defined and created a platform for Mumbai’s live musicians during the last decade and a half. It’s decidedly jazz theme, showcased live artists spanning all genres, from Classic Rock to Pop. It started as Talk of the Town, in the 1960s, and catapulted singer Usha Uthup to fame after a powerhouse performance in 1969. Then it got renowned as ‘Jazz By The Bay’ and with the influx of new-age music it transformed to become ‘Not Just Jazz By The Bay’.
