Noted Marathi literateur and Padmashree awardee Bal Samant has passed away after prolonged illness.

Noted Marathi literateur and Padmashree awardee Bal Samant has passed away after prolonged illness.

He was 85 and is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter. Samant was undergoing treatment at the Nanavati Hospital and breathed his last on Sunday morning.

The funeral will take place on Tuesday at the Shivaji Park crematorium after his children's arrival from abroad. Born on May 27, 1924, Samant graduated from Ruia
College in Mumbai. He was well known for his biographical, humourous and philosophical writings.

Among his popular works include 'Marnat Kharokharach Jag Aste', 'Ek Hoti Mumbai', 'To Ek Rajhans', 'Hitler ek Shokantika', 'Gajraj', 'Navra Baiko', 'Kushmaskari',
'Gondhal'.

Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan has condoled Samant's death and paid rich tributes to the legacy that he left behind.
