Model Pooja Misrra has been spending sleepless nights after her e-mail account was hacked by some miscreants, who have been sending vulgar messages to people in her mailing list.
The nightmare, said the model, began when her cell phone was stolen after a fashion show that was held in Mumbai in the last week of November.
She promptly registered a complaint at the Kherwadi police station. Little did she know then that the havoc the miscreants would wreak would hamper her career.
In mid-December, much to her horror, Misrra began receiving e-mails from friends describing the vulgar mails that were being sent from her account. “I was shocked and approached the cyber crimes cell of the Mumbai Police,” she said. “I wanted to get the culprits booked.”
Misrra has featured in many music videos and ads for various products like Durian furniture, Videocon washing machines, and Sansui TVs. The unidentified persons also hacked into her London-based manager Jeff Scott’s e-mail address and sent out mails from there.
Misrra’s troubles did not end there. In the first week of January, she began to receive explicit messages on her mobile.
The model does not rule out professional rivalry, where a colleague could be behind the mischief. But “I’m at my wits’ end and can’t imagine who would be behind this vulgar mischief”, she said.
The cyber crime cell, where she registered a complaint on January 10, is investigating the case. “We have noted the number from where the obscene SMSes were sent,” said a police officer looking into the matter. “We are trying to find out the person who hacked her e-mail account. We hope to arrests the culprit soon.”
