Operator rules out rash driving for e-way mishap in Pune

The management of Neeta Tours and Travels on Tuesday claimed that the mishap involving one of its buses on the expressway was not due to rash driving. The Pune-bound luxury bus met with an accident late on Sunday night when it rammed into a container near Kamshet.

The mishap killed two, including the bus driver, and injured 25. While one passenger, Utpal Nityashekhar Siddhar (32) of Pune, succumbed to his injuries at the Lokmanya Hospital in Nigdi, the bus driver, Ravindra Bhimsha Kalal (32) of Akkalkot in Solapur, died on the spot.

The divisional manager of Neeta Tours (Pune division), Dwhanil Sanghvi, said the mishap did not take place due to rash driving or over speeding.

“Our new buses have the facility where its speed gets locked at 95 kmph. We get it locked when we buy buses to avoid mishaps and lessen the impact of any accident,” he said. Sanghvi said the drivers undergo training and clear the examination conducted by Volvo company.

Lokmanya Hospital spokesperson, Dr Shrikrishna Joshi, said other than two deaths, eight out of the 25 injured passengers were admitted, but most were discharged within a day.
The Kamshet police are investigating the case.
