Pimpri-Chinchwad population is 17.29 lakh

Pimpri-Chinchwad has witnessed a rise of about 20% in its population in the past decade. According to the 2011 census, the population of the city is 17,29,320. The male population (9.45 lakh) is higher than the female population (7.83 lakh).

The population of Pimpri-Chinchwad was 10.6 lakh as per the 2001 census, said additional municipal commissioner Prakash Kadam. The population of the twin townships is increasing rapidly. In 1991, it was 5,17,083 while in 1981 it stood at 2,49,364.

As per the 2011 census, the total population of Pune district is 94.26 lakh, of which male heads are 49,36,362 while female numbers are 44,90,597.

The population of the district was 72,24,224 in 2001. According to district administration officials, the census revealed that the female-male ratio for the district is 909 per 1,000 boys. “The population of Pune district has gone up by 30.34% compared to 2001 data,” the district officials added.

With the population growth around 30% in the past two decades, the 2011 data showed the second highest growth rate after Thane district, which was 35.9%.

The literacy rate in Pune stands at 87.19%. The average growth rate for the state is 15.99%. Thane city recorded 9.84% growth followed by Pune at 8.4% and Mumbai suburbs at 8.3%.
