The Pune police’s crackdown on eve-teasing during the ongoing Ganeshotsav seems to be paying off. Plainclothes police personnel, led by assistant commissioner of police Vinod Satav, and including four woman officials spread out in the busy Laxmi Road area trying to spot eve-teasers on Wednesday night.
This correspondent accompanied police inspector Yadav, assistant sub-inspector Shulochana Shinde, constables Swati Jagtap, Satish Mule, Nirmala Pachange and Mohan Pawar in the area between 8.30pm and 11.30pm, during which two eve-teasers were nabbed.
A man tried to get fresh with a woman police constable dressed in a sari. The constable immediately caught the man. He was let off with a warning. In another incident, a collegian who was trying to get fresh with some girls was hauled up and made to do sit-ups in full public view.
Deputy commissioner of police (crime), Rajesh Bansode told DNA, “The incidents are far less this year. This is because eve-teasers are aware that our teams are roaming around in mufti.”
