MUMBAI: Following reports that some victims of the multi-crore kidney racket in Gurgaon could be from Mumbai, the city police has increased surveillance in areas from where they could belong. The prime places from where victims have been targeted are the areas near Haji Ali and the Mahim dargah. “The local police, under whose jurisdiction these places are, have been asked to increase surveillance and identify possible victims of the kidney racket,” said a senior police officer.
After the racket was busted in Gurgaon and prime suspect Dr Amit Kumar alias Santosh Raut arrested in Nepal, the police have intensified investigations into the case. “We are trying to find out if there are any victims in Mumbai so that their statements could help the police in the case against Raut,” the officer said.
The officer said in some such rackets exposed in Mumbai in the past, the victims were from the same areas of Haji Ali and Mahim dargah.
Deputy Commissioner of police Deven Bharati said if the police received fresh complaints regarding the kidney racket, then a full-fledged investigation could be launched.
