Political parties are going all out to back the anti-Jaitapur Nuclear Power Project movement.

They are sponsoring their party workers to take part in the agitation on August 9 in New Delhi.

As around 150 activists from Ratnagiri began their journey on Sunday, Shiv Sena arranged a special bogie to the train, spending around Rs1.81 lakh. Sena leader informed DNA that, any help provided to the movement will take the movement forward.

“Since our party has jumped into the agitation with full strength, this help was important. We have decided to help not for political gains but to show the people that we are with them in their struggle,” said a Sena leader, on condition of anonymity.

The Left parties have decided to fund the food and lodging in Delhi. CPI(M) has sponsored the lodging of all the delegates going to Delhi for the agitation and CPI(ML) and CPI will take care of their food.

Ashok Dhawale, Maharashtra state secretary of CPM, informed DNA that, his party will be providing the lodging assistance to the activists reaching there from Maharashtra. “We feel that, it is our duty to chip in the mass movement going in Maharashtra, against the state oppression,” said Dhawale.

Ramdas Athawale’s Republican Party of India (RPI) has chipped by sponsoring one day’s lunch in Delhi. “My party will not only take care of one day’s lunch of the agitators, but I along with my activists will participate in the protest on August 9. The help which we are extending is for the greater cause. Any movement needs monetary help, and we are doing to the best of our capability,” said Athawale.

Janhit Seva Samiti’s Pravin Gavhankar said that this is the first time that all the parties, irrespective of their political ideologies, have joined hands for the movement.

“There will be around 2,000 people of political parties, NGOs and environmentalists from across the country at Jantar Mantar to show solidarity with our struggle against the nuclear project,” he said.

This is the first time that the activists have decided to take their agitation to Delhi.

Communist leaders such as Prakash Karat, Sitaram Yechuri, D Raja, Sena MP Sanjay Raut and a number of scientists will speak against the Jaitapur nuclear project on August 9 in Delhi.
