It’s a daily ordeal for commuters traveling on the road running parallel to the Race Course connecting the Pune-Solapur Road.
Reason: The road is broken and ridden with potholes.
What adds to the problem is the absence of proper streetlights on the entire patch making it accident prone.
“It is a nightmare to travel on the road, especially during the nights as the dark road makes commuting dangerous. It is hard to understand that why aren’t the civic authorities taking any action,”
Neeraj Iyengar, who regularly uses the road, told DNA.
Not only is the road broken, tiny pebbles on it make things worse for the commuters. When DNA visited the spot, it found that the poor quality of the road affects the traffic resulting in accidents.
“During the wee hours, the potholes and the stones on the road are very much evident. The discomfort caused due to pebbles always leads the two-wheelers skidding on the road,” said Madhuri Joshi, a regular commuter.
When contacted, Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) executive engineer, KV Shirodkar, said that though the road comes under the PCB, the onus to maintain the road is on the Military Engineer
Services (MES). “We have informed MES about the poor condition of the road. They will surely take necessary actions in the future,” he said.
MES officials assured that repair work on the road will start soon. “We have started inviting tenders for it,” a MES official, on condition of anonymity, said.
