The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has neglected the poor condition of its roads, despite the important festival of Ganeshotsav. Instead, the civic body has appealed to Ganesh mandals not to dig up roads for pandals.

The recent incessant showers have washed away many roads in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Huge potholes are seen at busy chowks in the twin-township, including Behl Chowk, Nigdi-Pradhikaran, Chinchwadgoan, Thergoan Road, Durganagar Chowk which connects to Telco Road, Nigdi Chowk, Talawade Software Park and Yamunanagar.

The potholes have covered almost the entire stretch from Tilak Chowk to Lokmanya Chowk and Bhel Chowk in Nigdi. Residents of Nigdi-Pradhikaran area complain that it is very difficult to drive on this stretch. Many schools and colleges are located near these chowks.

A commuter from Nigdi-Pradhikaran, Madhavi Kulkarni, said, “The PCMC dug up the road near Lokmanya Chowk for storm water drainage lines, but did not repair it. There is tremendous rush on this stretch.”

PCMC engineering department coordinator, Dilip Kudale, said the road near Lokmanya Chowk and Kudalwadi-Chikhali road would be repaired after the monsoon. On both the stretches storm water drains have just been laid.
