MUMBAI: Pravin Mahajan, accused of killing his elder brother and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pramod Mahajan, has distanced himself from his lawyer and will make a bail plea in the Bombay High Court without his consent.
Sources close to Pravin said here that lawyer
Nandkumar Rajurkar who appeared for him in proceedings, had been making statements without his client's consent.
"Even the bail application made in Bombay High Court recently was not done with the consent of Pravin," his brother in-law Prasad Pulliwar said from Nagpur.
Pravin has informed the court that he did not wish to continue Rajurkar as his lawyer and whatever Rajurkar did so far was without his consent, family sources said.
Pravin's family members said that they were not consulted or taken into confidence by Rajurkar, who they allege, has not met Pravin ever since he took his case.
"We will decide our new legal aide in the coming days," Pulliwar further said.
Rajurkar said he has decided to withdraw from the case as he felt danger to life and property (after taking up the case) and also since Pravin's wife, Sarangi was "pressurising" him.
"Sarangi has written a letter to me saying she had met Pravin in jail on August 2, and they decided to discontinue with my service as their lawyer," Rajurkar said.
"There was also certain political pressure on me not to press for his bail application, and I fear danger to my life and property, and therefore I have decided to withdraw", he added.
