A 25-year-old woman, who was 18-week pregnant, and another 35-year-old woman died on Sunday at the Sassoon general hospital, taking the death toll due to H1N1 influenza to 43.
Dean of the Sassoon Hospital Dr Arun Jamkar said the pregnant woman — Radha Narayan Prajapati — was a resident of Padmavati. She breathed her last at the intensive care unit of the hospital at 1.45 am. Prajapati was admitted to the hospital on August 17.
She was suffering from high grade fever for 15 days before admission.
Doctors at the hospital said she was diagnosed with H1N1 along with bronchopneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The patient’s throat swab had initially tested negative for H1N1. It was on August 22 when her second sample tested positive.
Jamkar said since the time of admission, she was critical and was on ventilator. On Sunday, 35 year old Pramila Kolte of Bhandgaon in Daund taluka died at 4.30 pm at the Sassoon hospital. She had tested positive for H1N1 and was critical since the time of admission. She was admitted on the night of September 10 and was kept on ventilator.
Kolte was initially taken to the Noble Hospital at Hadapsar, but doctors there immediately referred her to the Sassoon hospital. She was suffering from high grade fever, cough and breathlessness.
