Mayor Shraddha Jadhav had requested the civic administration that those suffering from ill health be exempted from the duty.

“The civic administration has decided that ageing employees, physically challenged, and those with diabetes and heart problem will not have to attend census duty,” additional municipal commissioner Manisha Mhaiskar said on Tuesday.

The civic employees will account for 18,500 enumerators and 3,087 supervisors in census duty. They are being trained at various centres across the city from April 2.

“The data collected by our employees will be used in the National Population Register (NPR). It is mandatory for one enumerator to cover at least 150 houses in 45 days. NPR activity is important. I request Mumbaikars to be present at home during this period to facilitate the work,” Mhaiskar said.
