After successfully installing prepaid electricity meters in Lonavla, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) plans to make available prepaid electricity meters for consumers in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
In the first phase, 6,000 prepaid meters will be installed for consumers. "In fact, we have installed prepaid meters at 27 houses in Kothrud division of the MSEDCL," officials added.
Initially, preference would be given for installation of the prepaid meters in apartments. The customers will be given 5% discount on bills and the cost of the prepaid meter would be borne by MSEDCL.
Under this scheme, consumers who opt for prepaid meters can buy certain units of power by making advance payments. Once the units bought are exhausted, consumers can buy recharge coupons, which will come in the form of a card from MSEDCL. These meters have a facility to check how much power is consumed.
Initially, the MSEDCL plans to install 25,000 prepaid meters in Pune, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Kalyan and Kolhapur zones.
