Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) recently seized nearly 30 properties for failing to pay property tax.

Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) recently seized nearly 30 properties for failing to pay property tax.

The property tax department head, Shahaji Pawar said, “The PCMC had set the target of Rs180 crore for property tax for 2011-12. By the end of February, PCMC was able to collect Rs175 crore as property tax.”

Those who paid property tax before June 10 were given 10% concession, while those who failed to do so, 2% fine was levied.

According to the civic administration, 30 properties were seized, which included  3 in Sangvi, 6 in Chinchwad, 21 in PCMC head office jurisdiction.

There was tremendous growth in real estate in 2011-12. Nearly 16,000 new properties were registered.

As much as 75% of PCMC’s revenue is generated from the octroi department and 5% from property tax.

There were 2,98,000 official properties within PCMC limits.
