Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) corporator, Vasant More, along with his two associates, was arrested by the Bharati Vidyapeeth police on charges of facilitating the marriage of a minor girl.
More (37), Rajabhau Kadam (41) and Mahadevi Dengle (33) of Katraj were arrested under relevant sections of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006. The trio was remanded in police custody till January 29.
The girl’s father, Nanabhau Waghmare (51), had lodged a police complaint. The police said More and his associates had organised a mass marriage event at the Mauli Garden marriage hall on the Katraj-Kondhwa Road in the first week of January.
The minor girl, brought to the event by Dengle, was married to a 25-year-old youth identified as Bhavarlal Meena, and the three suspects facilitated it against a payment of Rs20,000.
The trio was produced before the court of judicial magistrate (first class) Manik Satav on Thursday.
Fire at IT office
A major fire broke out at the office of Yardi Software, situated on the third floor of seven-storey Sigma House off Senapati Bapat Road, at 6.30 am on Thursday. There was no casualty.
Sigma House also houses the Asian School of Cyber Laws, Cross Country Software and Sigma Systems. A team of 20 firemen rushed along with two fire tenders and two tankers and brought the fire under control after 30 minutes.
Yardi other office situated in Mutha Chambers, 150 metres from the Thursday’s fire spot, had caught fire on July 29 last year.
IT firm staff commits suicide
The body of Wipro’s accounts officer, Mukeshkumar Suresh Chaudhary (25), was found hanging in his flat at Ganeshnagar, Wakad, on Wednesday. The incident came to light when a foul smell started emanating from his flat, after which his neighbours notified the Hinjewadi police.
Empty liquor bottles were found near the body, but there was no suicide note. Chaudhary had not reported for duty since
Monday, and was disturbed after coming to know that his girlfriend has developed a liking for another person.
