Bureau Veritas has awarded the Pune district collectorate the prestigious ISO 9001:2008 certification for its ‘effective management system’.

This was announced by former district collector Chandrakant Dalvi on Friday. In Maharashtra, the Pune district collectorate became the first collectorate to be ISO certified.

The certification followed the successful implementation of the zero pendency and daily disposal mechanism of files initiated by Dalvi, and the continuation of the same model by the present collector, Vikas Deshmukh.

Chief secretary of the state, Ratnakar Gaikwad, had handed over the certificate to Dalvi and Deshmukh during his visit to Pune on Thursday for the revenue officers’ meet.

“The idea for certification occurred to us while we were implementing the zero pendency and daily disposal for files,’’ Dalvi said. The zero pendency model entailed updating record rooms and destroying redundant files.

In the process, around 12.5 lakh files — weighing 28 metric tonnes — were destroyed and around 11.5 lakh files were filed in the record rooms.

Dalvi mentioned the next step towards the zero pendency model would be implemented in the office of the commissioner of land settlement.

“We will scan the documents relating to the right of record for villages in Haveli and Mulshi talukas and put them online,’’ he said.

Approximately, 40 lakh documents would be scanned soon.

Sanjay Garge of Bureau Veritas congratulated the collectorate for the efforts it had put in for the certification.
