The court of additional chief judicial magistrate VK Yawalkar on Tuesday granted bail to Ramesh Balkrishna Dhole Patil (64) in connection with urban land ceiling (ULC) scam.

Ramesh, who is the younger brother of former mayor of Pune, Ulhas Dhole Patil, was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Monday morning.

After the court granted Ramesh judicial custody, he moved a bail application through his lawyer Santosh Bhagwat. Arguing on the bail plea, Bhagwat told the court that so far, Ramesh had recorded his statement thrice before the CID during the last year.

Opposing the bail application, assistant public prosecutor VD Kadam told the court that the CID is yet to recover the original copy of ULC order.

But Bhagwat argued that Ramesh submitted the certified copy of the ULC order to the CID as the original copy is always with the ULC office.

He also brought it to the notice of the court that Ramesh has been arrested from a city hospital.

After hearing both the sides, the court released Ramesh on solvent surety of Rs50,000. Ulhas Dhole Patil is a co-accused in the case. According to the CID, Ramesh prepared a fake ULC order dated September 9, 2001, for the land in Kharadi.

Later, the Dhole Patil brothers, along with Babalu Ibrahim Sayyed submitted the fake ULC order to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for obtaining a layout permit.
