In the second incident in 24 hours, a traffic constable was caught for slapping a citizen on Tuesday. The constable was transferred from the department with immediate effect.
He joins the four traffic policemen who were transferred on Tuesday.
In the latest incident, a 25-year-old motorcyclist, Rohit Nikam, jumped the traffic signal at Dorabjee Chowk on Ambedkar Road on Tuesday afternoon. Constable Jyotiram Mohite, who was supervising traffic at the junction, pulled out the keys of the motorcycle.
A heated argument ensued which led to the constable slapping the youth. Deputy commissioner of police (traffic), Vishwas Pandhare, told DNA, “More was deployed at the point when Nikam jumped the signal. Nikam showed his licence and began provoking the constable. Both got into a heated argument and More threw his keys on the road and slapped the youth. This was a mistake of our constable. Hence, he has been transferred and an internal inquiry will be conducted against him.’’
He appealed to citizens to complain to the nearby traffic branch or on Facebook.
