A 34-year-old housewife, Vaishali Munot, has to undergo plastic surgery on her severely bruised face after she met with a debilitating accident in Pimpri-Chinchwad area on September 1.

The condition of the road where the mishap took place is pathetic. Vaishali, a resident of Nigdi-Pradhikaran, was on a two-wheeler with her two children to drop them to school. She was not wearing a helmet.

The two-wheeler she was riding skidded on the 1-km-long stretch of the road from Mhalsakant College Chowk to Lokmanya Hospital Chowk.

There is a divider on the road with one stretch used to going from the college junction to the hospital junction and the other stretch for plying in the opposite direction.

“I was going towards Lokmanya Hospital Chowk, which is full of small potholes and littered with tiny stone chips. While trying to negotiate a private bus coming from the opposite side, my vehicle skidded,’’ she recalled.

The bus, like other vehicles, was plying on the wrong side since the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) had dug up a part of the stretch from Hospital Chowk to College Chowk to lay underground storm water pipelines, but did not relay it properly after the work was over.

She sustained serious injuries on the left side of her face and received 12 stitches near the left eye. The skin on the left side of cheek has been completely damaged. She is not able to open her mouth properly.

“I was admitted to Lokmanya Hospital for five days, incurring an expenditure of more than Rs40,000. The doctors have suggested that I undergo plastic surgery as the skin of my face has been damaged,’’ said Vaishali, adding that she would undergo the surgery after the stitches are removed. According to the victim, the local residents have been demanding that the road be relaid for smooth movement of vehicles.
