The Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (Mans) has decided to step up pressure on the state government to pass the anti-superstition bill in the forthcoming legislative assembly session.
This includes urging eminent personalities, politicians and other organisations working towards eradication of superstition to send multiple telegrams to the chief minister.
Office-bearers of Mans announced this at a press conference held in the city on Tuesday. They said the process will begin on July 7 and continue till July 25.
According to state secretary of Mans, Milind Deshmukh, the state legislative assembly had agreed to pass such a bill on July 7, 1995. “It is now 16 years but no such bill has been implemented as yet,” he said.
Founder president of Mans, Narendra Dabholkar told DNA, “We have waited for 16 years, but things haven’t worked out. It is time that the government understands the gravity of the matter and works accordingly.”
Dabholkar threatened a satyagraha in front of the Vidhan Sabha if the demand is not fulfilled. “If things don’t work, then we will stage a satyagraha and are ready to bear the consequences, including arrest,” he said.
According to Deshmukh, members of Mans all over the state will urge local leaders and noted personalities to send telegrams to
the chief minister to highlight the importance of the issue.
“We want support from these people. We are even ready to send the telegrams on their behalf. With repeated telegrams on the same issue, the chief minister will understand the urgent requirement of such a bill,” he said.
