Harried commuters using the arterial Western and Eastern Express Highways may have some respite with the state Public Works Department (PWD) planning comprehensive repairs of potholed sections during a lull in the rains. "We have three mobile units for filling potholes on the Western Express Highway (WEH) using cold mix asphalt during the rains," said a senior PWD official.

Of around 25.33 km WEH, the 8.5 km stretch from Bandra to Andheri is vested with PWD and the remainder up to the Dahisar toll naka, comes under the jurisdiction of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority. Similarly, on the 23.55 km Eastern Express Highway (EEH), which connects the island city to the eastern suburbs and Thane, PWD officials have created mobile units to fill potholes, and will also use hot mix to carry out repair work during a dry spell. A plan of Rs 10 crore was made for repairs.
