Mumbai railway police commissioner Tukaram Chavan bagged the president’s medal for distinguished service on Independence Day.

Mumbai railway police commissioner Tukaram Chavan bagged the president’s medal for distinguished service on Independence Day. His earlier awards include the police medal for meritorious services on January 26, 2001 and the DG’s insignia in 1998.

Born in Satara, Chavan was soon the DCP in Mumbai city and Mumbai Railway, and subsequently worked as additional commissioner of police in Mumbai and Thane. He was later posted as Mumbai railway police commissioner, in which capacity he succeeded in improving the claimant rate for injured and dead to 95% and 85%, respectively. He has also improved the detection percentage of crime.
